Hello again guys. For the record I'm 57 years old 5' 8″ 218# on blood pressure meds for the last few years but was feeling fine until last Sept. when the Gout flares started. I had my ankle joint fluid tested in May and was told I do have Gout. I've been taking 200mgs of Allop. for almost 8 weeks. So far since then I've only had one big flair and that was controled with Colchicine and Pred. I'm off the Pred. After months of being up and down on different doses. I'm still taking one .60 mgs of Colchicine twice a day for pain. Now the main pain comes when I stand on my feet for more than a few minutes it starts with pain in the bottem of my left foot between my arch and my heel. It feels like I'm standing on a bunch of small sharpe rocks. Then after awhile longer the pain move up in to my ankle where it settles into a throbing pain. This only takes about 10 to 15 minutes of me standing on my feet. Also if I put a shoe or boot on this same foot it will go numb in a very short time. I ask the rhumotalgolist about it and he said it sounded like Planter Fasciitis to him. But after reading about it. It doesn't sound like it to me. What I read said my foot would hurt in the morning and then feel better as the day went on and it loosened up. Where as my foot feels normal in the morning and gets worst the longer I'm on it. I'm hoping for a lot of replys on this so maybe someone will come up with the right answer. I'm sick of not being able to work or just do the normal everyday things a healthy person takes for granted. This is very depressing. Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated. Thank in advance LIMPY.

There is no reason for gout not to result in an inflamed plantar fascia due to deposits of uric aciid, so an absolute call might be hard to make.
I would up my allopurinol to 300 mg. and double my colchicine.
July 13, 2010 at 4:53 pm #9223vegetarianGuyParticipantI also think it is Gout related. Every case is different but based on my personal experience and LOT of digging on the web I would say 8 weeks on AlloP that also 200mg is peanuts It took me 6 months on 300mg AlloP to shake off my 1+ year long non stop left toe region pain. Frankly I had given up hope of ever being pain free but Lord AlloP delivered
P.S- I replied to your PM limpy
July 13, 2010 at 5:12 pm #9224vegetarianGuyParticipantLimpy another thing I noticed is that you are exactly same height as me but lot heavier. If my conversion is correct then in your case 218 lbs = 99.1 kg which is almost 40 kgs more than my weight. More mass = more blood uric acid production + more weight/stress on the joints.
Btw unlike most when I started AlloP 6 months ago I did not and still don't take any Colchicine. Doc gave me 400mg Iboprofene to take 3-4 times daily but I never took them Ok I took maybe 20 tablets in 6 months I just felt that being on AlloP was one tablet too many already so did not want to get hooked on Iboprofene too.
I also wanted to feel what my body was actually feeling. Btw the times I took Ibofrofen it did jack *** for my pain!

Yeah I know I'm over weight but I have lost 13# since Jan. and hope to loose more. It's hard to burn off extra weight when you can do much more than walk from the couch to bathroom or to the bedroom. I would love to be able to go out and mow the yard cut and split some wood tinker around the shop. But my feet just won't let me. And the way I feel right now I wonder if I'll ever will be able to do those things again. It's very depressing. I've tried to get my Rhumy to up my dose of Allop. but he just says no. I'm going to see my MD. tomorrow and see what he thinks about it. Thanks for all the replys. LIMPY

I understand Limpy. I feel you will get better with time as long as you stay on AlloP and at the correct dosage. It will take some months though so be patient. Meanwhile don't eat unhealthy food and compound the problem while you are grounded. In your current depressed state it can get very tempting to stuff yourself with bad food.
Stay strong!
July 13, 2010 at 6:23 pm #9228limpyParticipantI must say if there is a good side to getting gout. It's I'm eating a lot better then I use to. I don't eat as much red meat as I use to and I'm eating a lot more fruits and have cut back on the sweets. I went from 1 to 2 cans of pop a day to maybe 2 a week. I'm sure thats where some of the weight went. As far as ibprofen the docter said not to take it while I was on prednisone. The colchicine seems to be holding most of the pain at bay(knock on wood) right now. LIMPY

I'm glad things arre getting better. I wish your doctor would aquiesce in the 300 mg. allopurinol. Here's the kind of doctor psychology that I hate: “I am not sure of my diagnosis so I will prescribe only HALF an effective dose!” So instead of being right 50% of the time he is wrong 100%.
Is one of your BP meds hydrochlorothiazide? Any diuretics?

Hello Zippy I'm glad you posted on my thread as I value your opinion.
The two BP meds I take are Terazosin and Fosinopril I use to take Monopril that had a water pill in it. It was suppose to help with the kidney stones I was getting at the time. Since then I've learned that it may have been the original trigger for my gout. What's your opinion on that thanks? Also I saw my MD yesterday and he looked over my numbers from the blood test the Rhumatologist took and said everything looks good. I ask him about uping the dose on my allop. He said we should just leave it at 200 mgs. so I guess I'm stuck there till I see my new Rhumatologist in Aug. LIMPY
